For Grandparents – We support ParticipAction’s initiative to get kids spending more time in play and physical activity. We believe that grandparents can and must be an important part of the solution! Try these three beach “functional games” with your grandkids. The sand is wonderful for balance, and soft on the joints. All three exercises use lots of fast twitch muscle fibres, which we lose as we age. So these exercises are great for grandparents too!

Coming in 2017:  Brock House, WPGCC, with other locations to be added. Two hour workshop:  “Is Aging Inevitable?” Learn about the 21 key factors that can allow you to maintain and improve physical function as you age. This free workshop provides an overview of the current research in exercise for functional aging and outlines evidence-based intervention you can apply in your own daily life. Taught by Gerokinesiologists and Occupational Therapists from Love Your Age Fitness, this workshop will explore the idea that you can delay or completely prevent a slide to disability as you get older.  Contact us at LoveYourAge@shaw.ca for more information.

Brock House Society:  Fitness Classes Summer 2017

 

Class Title: Whole Body Cardio and Functional Fitness

Day and Time:  Mondays 8:30-9:30 am

Description: This lively, high level class incorporates a variety of low impact cardiovascular/aerobic exercises, followed by strength, balance, posture and core exercises.

Dates:  June 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31, August 14

 

Class Title:  Functional Strength

Day and Time:  Mondays 9:35-10:50 am

Description:  Always fun and never boring, this high level strength class focuses on exercises that train your muscles to work together while emphasizing core stability.  Using a variety of exercise tools such as fitness balls, tubing and weights, exercises will involve multiple joints and muscles simultaneously in order to improve daily activity, reduce injury risk, and improve quality of life.

Dates:  June 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31 August 14

 

Class Title:  Balance, Posture & Strength

Day and Time:  Wednesdays 8:30-9:30 am

Description:  This mindful and engaging class will focus on exercises to improve balance, strength, posture, and body alignment.  Class activities will emphasize coordinated movement and engagement of the correct muscles used in walking and balancing the body.

Dates:  June 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16

 

Class Title:  Stretch and Strengthen Body and Mind

Day and Time:  Wednesdays 9:35-10:50 am

Description:  This fun and innovative mid-level class will focus on mobility, stability, and strength.  Functional strength exercises will train your muscles to work together while emphasizing core stability.  Balance exercises will incorporate “Brain Muves” for both cognitive and sensory aspects of balance.  The last part of the class focuses on postural alignment exercises, active range of motion, stretching, imagery/visualization, and deep relaxation.

Jericho Beach

Class Title: Nordic Balance and Gait

Day and Time: Tuesdays 12:30-1:30 pm and Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 pm

Description: Gait and Balance Training with Nordic Poles (participants can use poles or choose not to).  $90/6 sessions or $18/drop in if space permits
